Softwood Pellets
We source our softwood pellet raw materials from softwood residues from sawmills and other softwood processing. No whole trees are used in Energex wood pellets. Softwood has a lower density than hardwood in its original form, so it burns faster at a higher temperature. However, this changes once the softwood is densified into a wood pellet and has the same density as a hardwood pellet. The biggest difference comes with the extra lignins in softwood pellets make them burn hotter than hardwood, meaning production quality truly decides what you’ll get out of your pellets. It is not determined based on the wood species. Discover the difference between hardwood and softwood pellets in our expert guide.
When you buy our softwood pellets, you can count on the Energex Standards. We pride ourselves in creating pellets that not only meet the Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) Standards Program but also exceed it. All Energex softwood pellets come from our Lac-Megantic, Quebec facility and fuels stoves in New England, and other parts of the Northeast.
Types of Softwood Pellets for Sale
Need to turn up the heat? Softwood wood pellets burn hotter than hardwood pellets, making them ideal for warming up colder homes. Choose from two varieties of softwood pellets:
- Premium Softwood Blend: The best of both worlds. Our blend of 60 percent softwood and 40 percent hardwood makes a pellet with a higher BTU output and lower ash content. Energex Premium Softwood Blend pellets feature an ash content between 0.5 percent and 0.6 percent. Yet, they generate over 8700 BTUs per pound, letting you stay warm without excess ash.
- 100% Softwood Premium: You asked, and we listened. We developed our 100% softwood pellets in response to overwhelming customer demand, and they don’t disappoint. These top-quality pellets burn even hotter and cleaner than the Premium Softwood Blend pellets. Enjoy over 8900 BTUs for every pound and less than 0.5 percent ash.
Our softwood pellets come from our facility in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec — one of the oldest wood pellet plants in North America. Energy giant Shell Oil Company built the facility in 1980 and was purchased by Energex in 1993. When you buy Energex softwood pellets, you see for yourself why experience matters.
